College Buddy
As a college buddy, you are matched in a one-to-one friendship with an individual with intellectual disability. The commitment is for the entire school year, so we cannot pair students who plan to study abroad that year. The requirements are:
- You must make contact with your Buddy on a weekly basis (i.e. in a telephone call, letter, email, etc).
- You must meet together in one-to-one outings at least two times per month (some examples: going to a sporting event, baking cookies together, playing frisbee, shopping, going out to eat, getting ice cream; anything you and your buddy enjoy!).
- You must be a contributing member of the chapter by attending the chapter meetings and group outings.
Associate Member
These students come to our monthly group outings. They are very instrumental in ensuring the success of these events by being on-call to hang out with the Buddies or helping to coordinate activities.
Group Outings
In the past our group outings have included trips to the Duke Primate Center, a show at the Morehead Planetarium, holiday parties, a semi-formal, bowling, and our biggest event of the year, a trip to the Asheboro Zoo!
Since most of the group homes are on Chapel Hill/Carrboro bus lines, participation in this club does not require a car. We also hold most monthly group outings on campus and will provide transportation for any students who live off campus.
