Youth for Elderly Service (YES) has a mission to improve the lives of the elderly by providing companionship. Through volunteering at retirement homes, daytime elder-care centers, and other locales, YES volunteers are able to build meaningful relationships with elderly members of the community and broaden their own understanding of various elder-related issues.

Youth for Elderly Service (YES) works to better the lives of elderly individuals in the community by building meaningful relationships and providing companionship. YES also advocates for elderly rights by raising awareness of elderly issues and fostering discussion in the campus community.
YES's members volunteer at one of five retirement homes in the community - Carolina House, Clare Bridge, Carolina Meadows, Carol Woods, or Britthaven. At these homes, volunteers have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities, including both one-on-one visits and group activities. YES also organizes group activities once a month in which all members participate. |
YES members volunteer about 1-2 hours per week at one of five retirement homes: Carolina House, Clare Bridge, Carolina Meadows, Carol Woods, or Britthaven (to learn more about each of these homes, please see the next article "Nursing Homes"). Volunteering times are flexible and members may choose their own volunteer schedule. However, volunteers must have an orientation at all facilities in order to volunteer.
YES organizes group orientation days & times to help the volunteer coordinators at the homes. If you are interested in volunteering and need an orientation, please email one of the co-chairs to find out when the next orientation will take place.
