The Campus Y recently received $300,000 from the Kenan Charitable Trust to expand efforts to integrate social justice, civic engagement, and social innovation at UNC, weaving together the College of Arts and Sciences and the graduate and professional schools.

The CUBE, UNC-Chapel Hill’s hub for social innovation, is accepting applications for the 2015 UNC Social Innovation Challenge from aspiring UNC social entrepreneurs interested in launching a venture to solve social or environmental problems. Ten ventures are selected for an 18-month residency at CUBE and can receive up to $5,000 in seed funding over their residency, provided they meet benchmarks.

When Lanier Gray became Director of Communications, she wanted to engage students interested in the writing in a platform other than the Communications Team. Thus, with the help of the communications team, Gray created The Arc so students could express their opinions on social justice related issues on campus and around the world.

In addition, students cover Campus Y committee events to showcase efforts in advancing social justice. The writing team is open to any student on campus who wants to raise awareness and discuss their views.
